Wheels of Time 2024

Museums Essex is proudly co-funding (with Arts Council England) the pilot of the Wheels of Time scheme in Essex for 2024. There are 19 fantastic museums across the county participating.

Young explorers aged 5-11 can visit any of the 19 sites and pick up a unique bespoke badge and (after their second badge) a lanyard to put all their badges on.  Collect 10 and they will receive a Bronze Award Badge, collect all 19 and receive an Annual Award and a certificate.

You can find out more about the scheme on the Essex Wheels of Time website: essex.wheelsoftime.uk

Wheels of Time began in Kent in 2015 to encourage young children and their families to visit participating museums and heritage sites to learn more about Kent’s vast and interesting history.  The character of Roamin’ Rex was named by one of the scheme’s first young explorers, Daniel, who collected his badge from Ashford Borough Museum.  Since then, the initiative has grown in popularity and now has 53 participating Kent sites with over 30,000 badges being awarded to 15,000 children.

In 2021, the Kent Wheels of Time Scheme announced that, thanks to an Arts Council England grant, the initiative would be expanding beyond Kent.
